I think I've decided on my topic for this project. I'd like to learn how to animate, since I can already draw stills and it would interest me to learn how to animate gifs and videos instead of drawing individual pictures. I'll probably rely on courses on Youtube.com or Lynda.com, and I'll also watch courses on anatomy to make sure the animations look accurate. I already have a few ideas on what I could animate, but they either seem incredibly time-consuming (like animating a video to go along with an entire song) for the time frame or like they'll be much too short to show off. I think animating something to go with music is probably my best choice, but I'll need to decide which song I want to use and what to draw to go along with it before I can actually start drawing anything. Also, I need to choose a good-quality animation app to download onto my drawing tablet that can handle the kind of length that I'll be working with. One thing I'm unsure about is bringing the tablet to school. I don't want to break or scratch it, but if I'm going to work on my Genius Hour in class, I'm going to need to be animating in class or doing something related. I think I'm going to buy a case for it soon, though, so it should be fine.
However, there is a chance that Mrs. Peel doesn't approve the idea for me to learn to animate. If that's the case, I need to come up with some Plan B's. I think a good idea would be learning a new language (Hawaiian would be awesome), or maybe something like learning how to play a new instrument would be fun. I know that not all Genius Hour projects focus on learning a new skill, but that type of project is the one that appeals to me the most, and I think I would enjoy it. Hawaiian would probably cost the least out of the three possibilities, since I could just learn online and find books on it at the library or something. Learning a new instrument would require buying or renting the instrument, and animating is going to cost at least $5.00 for the animation app. $5.00 isn't much, but it's more than free. I think it'll be worth the $5.00 if Mrs. Peel approves the animation idea.
